I included this little story in the last issue of the CVAC (Canadian Virtual Assistant Connection) Newsletter and thought I would share it here as well. The Author is unknown, but the story certainly should not be…
Once upon a time, there was a large mountainside where an eagle’s nest rested. The eagle’s nest contained four large eagle eggs. One day an earthquake rocked the mountain, causing one of the eggs to roll down the mountain to a chicken farm located in the valley below. The chickens knew that they must protect and care for the eagle’s egg, so an old hen volunteered to nurture and raise the large egg.
One day the egg hatched and a beautiful eagle was born.
Sadly, however, the eagle was raised to be a chicken. Soon the eagle believed he was nothing more than a chicken. The eagle loved his home and family, but his spirit cried out for more. While playing a game on the farm one day, the eagle looked to the skies above and noticed a group of mighty eagles soaring in the skies. “Oh,” the eagle cried, “I wish I could soar like those birds.” The chickens roared with laughter, “You cannot soar with those birds. You are a chicken, and chickens do not soar.”
The eagle continued staring at his real family up above, dreaming that he could be with them. Each time the eagle would let his dreams be known, he was told it couldn’t be done. That is what the eagle learned to believe. The eagle, after a time, stopped dreaming and continued to live his life like a chicken. Finally, after a long life as a chicken, the eagle passed away.
The moral of the story: You become what you believe you are. So if you ever dream of becoming an eagle, follow your dreams, not the words of a chicken.
I just heard the devastating news that Melissa Ingold’s (The Internet Marketing Sweetie) baby passed away in his sleep. He was 1 week shy of his 2nd birthday.
Needless to say, the shock and sadness of this loss is difficult enough to bear, but having to cope with the financial burden of funeral costs on top of this loss is not an easy burden to bear. To add to the financial stress, the Ingold’s were in the midst of buying a new home when Kyle passed away.
Melissa is a contributing member of WAHM (Work at home moms) and they are running a fundraiser to help Melissa during this time.
Please head over to WAHM and take advantage of some great deals while at the same time helping out a colleague and talented entrepreneur.
I came across this video today and was so intrigued and inspired by this young man that I had to share it.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
This is such an inspiring and beautiful video of Nick Vujicic. When you think you are having a bad day and business is getting you down, take a lesson from this young man.
You maybe have heard or seen this story before, I know I have.
It came across my desk again this morning and it was such a welcomed addition to my email. Sometimes we all need a refresher.
I loved this and think it is so valuable so thought I would share:
Big Rocks
By: Unknown Author
One day an expert in time management was speaking to a group of business students and to drive home a point, used an illustration those students will never forget.
As he stood in front of the group of high-powered overachievers he said, "Okay, it’s time for a quiz," and he pulled out a one-gallon wide-mouth Mason jar and set it on the table in front of him. He also produced about a dozen fist-sized rocks and carefully placed them, one at a time, into the jar. When the jar was filled to the top and no more rocks would fit inside, he asked, "Is this jar full?"
Everyone in the class yelled, "Yes." The time-management expert replied, "Really?" He reached under the table and pulled out a bucket of gravel. He dumped some of the gravel in and shook the jar, causing the pieces of gravel to work themselves down into the spaces between the big rocks. He then asked the class once more if the jar was full.
By this time, the class was on to him and said, "Probably not."
"Good," he replied. He reached under the table and brought out a bucket of sand and started dumping it into the jar.
The sand went into all of the spaces left between the rocks and the gravel. Once more he asked if the jar was full.
"No!" the class shouted. Once again he said, "Good." He grabbed a pitcher of water and began to pour it into the jar until the jar was filled to the brim.
Then he looked around the room and asked, "What is the point of this illustration?"
One eager beaver raised his hand and said, "The point is that no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit some more in."
"No," the speaker replied, "that’s not the point. The truth is that this illustration teaches us that if we don’t put the ‘big rocks’ in first, we’ll never get them in at all."
What are the ‘big rocks’ in your life? Time with your loved ones, your faith, your education, your dreams, a worthy cause, teaching or mentoring others? Remember to put these ‘big rocks’ in first, or you’ll never get them in at all.
Tonight or in the morning when you are reflecting on this short story, ask yourself this question: "What are the BIG ROCKS in my life?" Put those in your jar first today.
I had to post this video of the Hoyt’s, Dick and Rick. I hope it inspires you as much as it did me.
